William J. Barrow is a partner in Mayer Brown’s Washington DC office and a member of the Intellectual Property Group. Bill protects and defends clients’ intellectual property rights in district courts throughout the country, and before the US International Trade Commission (ITC) and US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Having begun his career prosecuting electrical and computer software patents, Bill is often sought out for his understanding of the interplay between litigation and USPTO procedure. His experience in this regard leads to the early identification of favorable case strategies and mechanisms for implementing those strategies in concert with his clients’ business goals.

Dr Matt Barton is a European and UK patent attorney and UPC Representative, and is Partner at Forresters where he heads the Munich office. Having qualified as a patent attorney in 2005, Matt is highly experienced in patent prosecution and drafting especially at the EPO and UKIPO. He has extensive experience of EPO opposition and appeal proceedings, handling multiple oral hearings each year, as well as freedom to operate and opinion work. His technical background is chemistry, with a focus on industrial chemistry, coating compositions, aerogels, battery materials, small molecules and drug conjugates. Matt’s particular specialism is in metallurgy, especially aluminium alloys and their methods of processing and production.

At Rivian, Nicole leads the team that manages the company’s litigation across a wide range of substantive areas including commercial matters and contracts, intellectual property, regulatory and competition, consumer rights/protection, torts/personal injury, real estate and securities. Rivian’s Product Defense and Legal Operations legal functions also report to Nicole.

Thomas studied general mechanical engineering at the Technical University (RWTH) in Aachen. In 1995/96 he completed his final thesis at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Fraunhofer-Institute for Production Technology (IPT) on 3D printing. Thomas joined Hoffmann Eitle, a pan-European IP boutique headquartered in Munich, in 1996. He qualified as a German patent attorney in 2000, as a European patent attorney in 2001, and as a Higher Courts litigator for England and Wales in 2016. Thomas was the founding partner of the firm's Dusseldorf office in 2012, which he continues to manage.
