Terry M. Sanks, a registered patent attorney, is a founding member of Beusse Sanks, PLLC, a predominately diverse and minority owned law firm.  Terry provides representation in all areas of intellectual property (“IP”) law, including patents, trademarks, trade dress, copyrights, trade secrets, IP litigation, licensing and IP related transactions.  Terry’s practice also includes managing patent and trademark portfolios for Fortune 500 companies, regional companies and universities.  He also is counsel to a major company where he is responsible in enforcing their trademark rights nationally.

 Terry has prepared and prosecuted patents in the U.S. and worldwide in numerous technologies including various aspects of electrical, electromechanical, mechanical, software and business methods. He also counsels clients on the patentability of inventions and provides patent infringement and validity opinions. 

With respect to trademarks, Terry assists clients with the selection, availability for use, preparation and prosecution of trademarks with state agencies and the USPTO, including opposition and cancellation practice before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. Terry also addresses client’s copyrights needs, including obtaining registration of copyrights filed with the United States Copyright Office. He also litigates cases involving every area of intellectual property law.

 Terry’s noteworthy IP legal abilities have resulted in being recognized and honored by various organizations and publications, locally, nationally and internationally, including Best Lawyers, Super Lawyers, World Trademark Review 1000, IP Stars, Florida Legal Elite, Martindale Hubbell and Avvo.

Terry has been an adjunct professor of law at the Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University College of Law and at the Barry University School of Law. He has also volunteered his time, primarily to civic and church-based organizations, lecturing on various areas of intellectual property law. He also mentors law students and attorneys starting their legal careers.

In addition to his involvement in national level bar associations, Terry is also active in the Florida Bar and the Orange County Bar Association.  He is a past chair of the IP Committee of the Florida Bar and is a past member of the Federal Bar Committee of the Florida Bar.   

Terry is a decorated former United States Air Force officer whose service includes being a program manager of a one-of-its-kind electric propulsion space experiment, authoring several articles about electric propulsion which included presenting the papers at national and international conferences, and serving as an electronic combat systems engineer where he directly supported the war-fighting mission of pilots in both the Air Force and Navy.
