Sakakeeny, Matt

Matt Sakakeeny is Associate Professor of Music at Tulane University. His book Roll With It: Brass Bands in the Streets of New Orleans follows brass band musicians as they march off the streets and into nightclubs, festival grounds, and recording studios. Matt has edited two other books, Keywords in Sound and Remaking New Orleans: Beyond Exceptionalism and Authenticity. Most recently, he received a grant from the Spencer Foundation for his next book about marching band education in the New Orleans school system. Matt also performs locally as a guitarist and is a board member of two local nonprofits, The Roots of Music afterschool program and the Dinerral Shavers Educational Fund.
