Ritchie, Lorelei

University of Louisville, Brandeis School of Law | Grosscurth Chair in Intellectual Property and Professor of Law

Professor Ritchie joined the faculty at the University of Louisville, Brandeis School of Law as the Grosscurth Chair in Intellectual Property and Professor of Law in 2024. She is an expert in intellectual property and commercial law. Professor Ritchie has a bachelor’s degree from Stanford University and a juris doctor from Columbia University School of Law. She has taught at law schools around the country including, most recently, the University of Florida. She also previously served as a judge at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (Trademark Trial and Appeal Board).

Professor Ritchie’s research focuses on the social utility of intellectual property ownership and enforcement, with a focus on public entities in the marketplace, and on the creation and enforcement of intellectual property rights. Her articles have been published, or are upcoming, in numerous law reviews, including the Indiana Law Journal, American University Law Review, Houston Law Review, Oregon Law Review, Santa Clara Computer & High Technology Law Journal, Trademark Reporter, Federal Circuit Bar Journal, and University of Pittsburgh Law Review. She has remained active in the legal community, and she has chaired or co-chaired committees for the ABA, AIPLA, and the State Bar of California.

Professor Ritchie teaches First Year Contracts and upper-level Intellectual Property courses, and she is excited to work with the students, the university, and the legal community to further participation and outreach for IP programs at the University of Louisville, Brandeis School of Law.
