Mudd, Jason
Shook, Hardy & Bacon L.L.P. | Partner
Jason Mudd is a partner and chair of the Patent Post-Grant and PTAB Practice in the IP Litigation Practice Group at Shook, Hardy & Bacon. Jason was involved in arguing the first ever IPR before the PTAB following passage of the 2011 America Invents Act. For this achievement, he was named an “IP MVP” by IP Law360 and an “IP Trailblazer and Pioneer” by the National Law Journal.
Jason regularly represents clients in post-grant proceedings before the USPTO, including in reexaminations and PTAB proceedings on behalf of both patent owners and challengers. He also represents both patent owners and accused infringers in district courts across the country and in appeals before the Federal Circuit.
His patent experience spans a wide array of various technologies, such as computer software and hardware, data communications, encryption, video encoding, automotive technologies, location-based technologies, payment systems, consumer products, gaming systems, medical devices, and pharmaceuticals.
Jason graduated cum laude with a J.D. and magna cum laude with a degree in Chemical Engineering, both from Mizzou. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his three kids, serving as an adult leader in his sons’ scout troop, and playing platform tennis. He also recently rediscovered the game of golf with his 14-year old son over the past year. That remains a work in progress.
