Beres, Joel T.

With more than 30 years of Intellectual Property experience, Joel Beres is a seasoned trial attorney who litigates complex IP disputes in both federal and state courts. A founding member and former co-chair of Stites & Harbison’s Intellectual Property & Technology Service Group, he manages all aspects of infringement litigation from trial strategy to appellate advocacy. He also maintains a robust practice in trademark and copyright prosecution, portfolio management, and licensing. Joel’s experience spans preparing and prosecuting trademark and copyright applications; handling trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings; and negotiating sophisticated licensing, assignment, software, and consulting agreements. Beyond the courtroom, Joel is deeply engaged in professional leadership through the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA), International Trademark Association (INTA – former board of director member), and the American Bar Association (ABA), and he has served on multiple boards supporting education and economic development. A graduate of UCLA School of Law and Stanford University, Joel brings not only legal acumen but also a passion for innovation, technology, and community involvement to every matter he touches.  He is recognized in Best Lawyers, Super Lawyers, and Chambers USA, and The World’s Leading Trademark Professionals, World Trademark Review (WTR) (2023-25)
