Steve Gong is Senior Patent Counsel and Head of Data Science, AI and Operations for Google Global Patents, where he leads the data science, technology, and operations organization supporting the company's patent function. He has held successive technology and operations roles at Google since 2017 — first as Head of Technology, Global Patents, building the software ecosystem behind the team, then as Head of Global Patent Tactics and Operations — after serving as Senior Director of Product Management at MaxVal Group and, before that, as a patent attorney at Convergence Intellectual Property Law, handling preparation and prosecution in biomedical device, biotechnology, and software. He is an Affiliate at CodeX, the Stanford Center for Legal Informatics, where his research examines interactions between AI and the legal ecosystem, and a co-founder and board member of ADAPT.legal; he holds a J.D. from Washington University in St. Louis School of Law and an M.S. in computer engineering from Santa Clara University.
