USPTO Proposes Patent Fees Adjustments

The US Patent and Trademark Office on July 31, 2019, issued a federal register notice where it proposes to adjust patent fees; specifically, making several targeted fee adjustments in addition to an approximately five percent across the board increase to the fees. 84 Fed. Reg. 37398.

According to the Federal Register notice, “[t]his proposed rule is needed because actual fee collections have not materialized as expected in the January 2018 Final Rule, projected fee collections have been lowered as a result, and critical costs to the Office continue to increase.”

The Office intends to issue a final rule on fee changes in fiscal year 2020 after receipt and analysis of public comments. Full details can be read in the 2019-15727.
