Hartwig, Henning

Henning Hartwig’s practice involves prosecution and litigation of IP rights in the fields of trademark, design, copyright and unfair competition law. His practice focuses primarily on national and international industrial design law, particularly multinational design infringement proceedings as well as invalidity proceedings before the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) in Alicante and the Court of Justice of the European Union in Luxembourg. Henning is a true pioneer in EU design law (which was established only in 2002), being one of the first bringing a claim for infringement, in 2003, before a design infringement court. Between 2007 and 2012, four volumes of his unique case law collection “Design Protection in Europe”, covering overall more than 300 decisions, have been released. In 2021, Henning published the one-of-a-kind “Research Handbook on Design Law”. Publishing, since 2014, extremely valuable reports on design court cases every second year, Henning has unique access and understanding of EU design law and practice. Overall, Henning has prosecuted more than 8,000 EU designs and represented clients in more than 150 design and trademark/trade dress infringement proceedings. According to the leading German legal press magazine JUVE, Henning is ‘one of the best specialists in design litigation’ and a true ‘design warrior’. Henning Hartwig is partner at BARDEHLE PAGENBERG in Munich and Chair of the Committee for Design Law of the German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (GRUR) established in 1891.
