AIPLA Welcomes new Executive Director Vincent E. Garlock

Vince Garlock

We are honored to announce that the Board of Directors has appointed Vincent E. Garlock as our next Executive Director, effective immediately.

Since joining AIPLA as the Deputy Executive Director in 2002, Vince has played an integral role in advancing significant changes in IP law, including the efforts that led to the passage of the Leahy/Smith America Invents Act and the Trade Dress Protection Act.  He has testified before Congress, participated in the development of AIPLA’s positions in many of its amicus briefs and comments, and supported the work of numerous AIPLA Committees.  As Deputy Executive Director, he has also managed the Board and Governance activities.  Vince has been serving as Acting Executive Director since March.

AIPLA has been redoubling its efforts to support our members and the entire IP community since the beginning of the pandemic.  We have been focused on providing further opportunities for education and information exchange on current IP issues, and on supporting our online communities (including those of our more than 50 committees), while we remain somewhat isolated from the friends, colleagues, and clients who enrich our professional and personal lives. We have also been continuing our advocacy work on the Hill, with the Administration, and in the courts.  Vince has been an integral part of all of these efforts, and he has dedicated himself to ensuring the strength and sense of community that we value in AIPLA.

We thank you for your continued support of the Association. We hope that everyone continues to take care of yourselves and each other. And stay in touch with us – we want to continue to be a reliable source of knowledge and connection for you through this challenging time.

“I and my colleagues at the USPTO congratulate Vince Garlock on his appointment as AIPLA Executive Director. AIPLA has long been critically important for the USPTO, and with Vince at the helm I am certain that this relationship will continue to flourish. Vince is a fabulous leader who brings to AIPLA and the larger IP community years of valuable experience advocating for the intellectual property system.”
          – Andrei Iancu, Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the USPTO

“I have known and worked with Vince for over two decades, and found his dedication to AIPLA, its members, and its goals unshakable.  I’ve sought Vince’s counsel on a wide range of issues — global, local, substantive, political — his advice is always superb. In any IP gathering, anywhere, Vince’s presence and contributions always add value and substance with a diplomatic touch. Congratulations Vince, and congratulations AIPLA!”
