Donald R. Dunner, the renowned patent attorney and name partner at Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP, passed away on October 16, 2019, at the age of 88.
Dunner served as president of the American Intellectual Property Law Association in 1979-1980, and as Chair of the American Bar Association’s IP Section in 1995-1996. He also held leadership positions in the District of Columbia Bar and the Bar Association of the District of Columbia.
Over the course of Dunner’s distinguished career, he received numerous recognitions and prestigious awards; including the AIPLA Board of Director's Excellence Award, the Association’s highest honor. The American Lawyer named him as “one of the world’s leading experts on patent law,” and in 2010, he was inducted into IAM’s IP Hall of Fame.
He is survived by his wife Jennie Sue, his daughters Lisa and Jennifer, and three grandchildren. Dunner will be missed by many at AIPLA and in the greater IP community.
