The updated listing of subcommittee mandates and members now is posted. We are looking for interested volunteers to lead/serve on two new subcommittees. Interested members are asked to contact Mark Partridge and Janet Fuhrer.

NGPC (New gTLD Program Committee) and GAC (Government Advisory Committee) Subcommittee
Mandate: To monitor activities or what is being posted, particularly with IP impact such as refusal to register certain terms with regional, generic or other problematic significance.
Internet Governance Subcommittee
Mandate: To monitor ICANN (and related) activities and discussions or what is being posted, particularly with IP impact.

Facebook has won the first ever resolved case under the Uniform Rapid Suspension System (URS) against "" - see the article at the link below:


The DIRECTV Group Inc. (DIRECTV) was successful in its Legal Rights Objection against Dish Network’s application to operate the gTLD .DIRECT. In more than 30 rulings adverse to trademark owners, this was the second time that a WIPO panel has upheld a Legal Rights Objection. Please note that because of a scheduling conflict with ICANN 46 7-11 April 2013 Beijing, the committee teleconference originally scheduled for April 9, 2013 (2 pm ET) will be held one week later instead on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at the same time.​

The period for public comments to be submitted to ICANN in respect of Closed Generic gTLDs closed March 7, 2013.

The period for fomal objections to new gTLDs based on string confusion, legal rights, limited public interest or community will close on March 13, 2013. Objections received by that date will move through a dispute resolution process which is expected to take about 5 months in most cases.

Until ICANN publishes the initial evaluation results, expected to be late March, applicants withdrawing their bids qualify for a 70 percent refund ($130,000) of the $185,000 application fee. After results are posted, the refund [will drop to] 50 percent.
