Announcement Description

From April 23-27, the AIPLA IP Practice in Japan Committee conducted its annual trip to Japan.  Twenty four committee delegates, led by AIPLA President Mark Whitaker and Committee co-chairs Neil Henderson and Steve Meyer, held meetings over four days with the Japanese Patent Office, AIPPI-Japan and the Japan Federation of Bar Associations, LES Japan, the Japan Patent Attorney Association (JPAA), the Tokyo American Embassy, the Japan IP High Court and Tokyo District Court Judges, The Japan Trademark Association, and the Japan Intellectual Property Association.

Open seminars were held for JPAA members in both Tokyo and Osaka, including presentations on recent developments in the U.S. and a mock deposition demonstration.  Meetings with all organizations included discussions of various topics of current interest in Japan and the U.S.
In addition, AIPLA President, Mark Whitaker, and delegation leaders met with several members of the Japanese House of Representatives (DIET) as well as the President of the Japan Agricultural Forestry and Fisheries Ministry Workers Union, and the Secretary General of the Citizens Congress for Opposing the TPP.  This was the first time that AIPLA leadership had an opportunity to meet directly with members of the Japanese Diet and it is hoped that such meetings may be continued in the future.

The Report has been uploaded to the Committee Documents page.
