Friday October 24th at 3:30-5:30 PM in the Thurgood Marshall Ballroom, Mezzanine Level is the joint Biotechnology and Patent Law Committees' CLE session.
 
If patent ineligibility under 101 is making you nauseous and you want to find out what and how a change can be done, you won’t want to miss this CLE session.  Following the panel discussion, there will be time for audience questions/participation.  The session details are as follows:
 
Biotechnology/Patent Law Committee (Joint Session) (120 Minutes of CLE Requested) Enacting, Implementing, and Interpreting Patent Laws: Hypothetical 101 Reform to Address Eligibility Involving Software and Biotechnology
This session will consist of four parts followed by a general Q&A.  The first speaker, Denise M. Kettelberger, will discuss the necessity for Section 101 reform and a possible amendment.  The second speaker, Majority Senior Counsel Vishal Amin, is a leader on Capitol Hill who has been involved in drafting legislation and developing strategy as part of his responsibilities on the Judiciary Committee’s subcommittee on the courts, intellectual property, and the internet.  Mr. Amin will explain how a bill comes to be and is then enacted into law.  The third speaker, a representative from the USPTO, will discuss the process by which the Patent Office implements new patent laws.  The speaker will describe the rule making process and how guidance materials are developed.  The fourth speaker, is Judge Rader formerly of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit who will explain the process of interpreting statutory and case law precedent.

The Regional/Social subcommittee invites San Diego members of AIPLA to join fellow members on Wednesday, January 22 for breakfast in advance of the featured webinar discussing issues relating to Genetically Modified Organisms.  The breakfast and webinar viewing is hosted and sponsored by Mckenna, Long & Aldridge in the North County (UTC) office.  A light breakfast will be available beginning at 8:30 am and the webinar is scheduled for 9:00-10:30 am (12:00 -1:30 pm eastern time).  Mckenna is located at 4435 Eastgate Mall, Suite 400, San Diego, CA 92121.
