Brain Darville Returns to Oblon, McClelland, Maier & Neustadt, L.L.P.

Oblon, McClelland, Maier & Neustadt, L.L.P. announced that Brian B. Darville has re-joined the firm's Trademark & Designs practice group. Brian left the firm in 2007 and has since focused his practice on trademark and copyright related counseling and dispute resolution.

Darville brings over two decades of litigation experience in federal courts throughout the U.S. and over a decade of experience handling intellectual property protection for trademarks and copyrights. He has handled numerous trademark, cybersquatting, unfair competition and copyright cases in federal court, and frequently represents clients before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB).

In his role as Senior Counsel with Oblon, Darville will continue his career as an experienced trademark and copyright litigator and advise the firm's clients on all aspects of trademark and copyright law, portfolio management and maintenance, and licensing of intellectual property, litigation and e-commerce.

​Darville holds a J.D. from the University of Virginia, an L.L.M. from George Washington University Law School and a B.A. in Economics also from the University of Virginia.

Frank Gerratana Elevated to Principal at Fish & Richardson

Fish & Richardson announced that 14 attorneys were named principals at the firm.  Among the new principals in the Patent Group is Frank Gerratana, chair of AIPLA’s New Lawyers Committee.

Frank Gerratana continues to focus his practice on developing patent portfolios in the technology areas of electronics, computer software & hardware, and medical devices.  He received his J.D. from the American University Washington College of Law in 2008, and his M.S. in computer science (2005) and B.S., with high distinction, in electrical engineering and computer science (2004) from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

Chen Wang Joins AIPLA as Deputy Executive Director for Regulatory Affairs

The American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) announced that Chen Wang, former Deputy Chief IP Counsel at E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company, joined AIPLA as the new Deputy Executive Director for Regulatory Affairs, beginning January 18, 2016.

As Deputy Executive Director for Regulatory Affairs, Wang will be a senior adviser to the Executive Director, and have principle day-to-day responsibility for AIPLA's international intellectual property policy work and regulatory issues of concern to the Association.

 In her role at DuPont, Wang monitored the development of domestic and international IP laws, represented the company in various fora speaking on IP issues, as well as interfacing with IP officials from the USPTO, the White House, USTR, and non-US patent offices on IP policy issues.  She has managed a global network of IP firms for DuPont, and has sustained relationships with officials from a number of patent offices.  Ms. Wang has been a member of AIPLA since 1999 and has been very active in service to the organization as a committee member, committee leader, and has served on the Board of Directors.

 In addition to her experience as an in-house counsel with DuPont, she has worked in private practice with Brinks Gilson & Lione (formerly Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione) and Fitch Even Tabin & Flannery.  Ms. Wang has a B.S.E. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan College of Engineering and a J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law.   She is fluent in conversational Chinese and is an active volunteer with the American Red Cross.

Mintz Levin Expands San Francisco Office with Addition Of Veteran IP Attorney William B. Kezer, Ph.D.

Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C. announced that William B. Kezer, Ph.D., an experienced patent prosecutor formerly of Kilpatrick Townsend, has joined the firm as a Member in the San Francisco office.  

Mr. Kezer counsels companies on development and management of patent portfolios and conducts due diligence reviews of targeted companies and technologies. He has expertise in technology underlying the pharmaceutical industry including drug development methods, formulations and drug delivery technologies, as well as other chemicals and small molecules. Prior to practicing law, Mr. Kezer served as a Senior Research Scientist and Project Leader for FMC Corporation and Dow Chemical Company/Dow Elanco.  His research was focused on the design and synthesis of small molecule regulators of biological processes.

Mr. Kezer is the Past Chair of the AIPLA Chemical Practice Committee.  A graduate of Humboldt State University, he earned his law degree from Golden Gate University and his PhD from the University of California, Berkeley.
