New Lawyers

The New Lawyers Committee focuses on members in their first ten years of practice.  The Committee provides educational and networking opportunities to new lawyers in the association through the stated meetings and receptions.  In addition, the Committee serves as a central resource to communicate with other committee chairs and members of AIPLA's Board to provide new lawyers opportunities to become more involved in the association.  New Lawyers Committee members are active participants in planning substantive programs for the stated meetings, co-authoring CLE papers with speakers, including corporate counsel, judging and administering the Giles Rich Moot Court Competition and the Watson Writing Competition, and assisting substantive committees with a variety of activities, including research and writing projects, committee meeting planning and implementation, developing educational materials, and managing committee microsites.

On Friday, October 21st from 3:30-5:30, in Washington Room 4 at the Marriott Wardman Park, don't miss the YLC's joint committee session with the Law Students, Mentoring and Education Committees. There will be a discussion of networking opportunities by geographic region, mentoring opportunities, and new writing and speaking opportunities that are available through these committees. We will also have a panel speaking on “A Day in the Life of an IP Attorney," highlighting different aspects of IP practice. Then, join us for a reception immediately following the session. We look forward to seeing you!

Dear YLC members,

We will have a joint session with the Trademark Committee and the Law Students Committee on brief writing. Our distinguished panelists will discuss key elements of a successful brief at the District Court and Appellate Court levels, at the USPTO for re-examination and appeals, and at the Trademark Trial and Appeals Board for oppositions and cancellations.  The panelists will also identify common elements and differences between the briefs submitted to the different tribunals.

The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 12, 2011, 3:30 - 5:30 pm at Presidio, Second Floor of the Palace Hotel in San Francisco.

All are welcome to attend.
