With ICANN 51 recently concluded (October 12-16 in Los Angeles: http://la51.icann.org/en/), preparations are underway for ICANN 52 which will be held in Singapore February 8-12, 2015: http://singapore52.icann.org/en/. Please join us for our next Committee teleconference on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 (see our Committee Calendar for details). An agenda will be circulated prior to the meeting. We look forward to speaking with those of you who can attend. Janet Fuhrer, Chair and David Einhorn, Vice Chair.

The DIRECTV Group Inc. (DIRECTV) was successful in its Legal Rights Objection against Dish Network’s application to operate the gTLD .DIRECT. In more than 30 rulings adverse to trademark owners, this was the second time that a WIPO panel has upheld a Legal Rights Objection. See copy of WIPO decision dated July 29, 2013 under Committee Documents.
Please note that because of a scheduling conflict with ICANN 46 7-11 April 2013 Beijing, the committee teleconference originally scheduled for April 9, 2013 (2 pm ET) will be held one week later instead on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at the same time.
The period for public comments to be submitted to ICANN in respect of Closed Generic gTLDs closed March 7, 2013.
See http://www.icann.org/en/news/public-comment for other upcoming public comment opportunities.
The period for fomal objections to new gTLDs based on string confusion, legal rights, limited public interest or community will close on March 13, 2013. Objections received by that date will move through a dispute resolution process which is expected to take about 5 months in most cases.
