IP Practice in China

Sec. 1. Under the guidance of the President and the Executive Director, this committee shall:

(a) Establish and maintain relations with professional societies in China whose members are interested in intellectual property law.
(b) Study the law and practice of China and report on issues of interest to the association Board of Directors and membership.
(c) Provide information on U.S. intellectual property law to any interested party in China, if called upon to do so.

Sec. 2. This committee shall coordinate its activities with the International and Foreign Law Committee.

​The Special Committee on IP Law in China will proudly present a Webinar to the All China Patent Agents Association membership in Beijing on June 1, 2011, entitled "United States Information Disclosure Statements Patent Laws and Regulations, and Consequences for Failure to Meet Such Requirements."  The program will be presented by Dr. Ling Zhong, Ph.D. and Dr. Chyau Liang, Ph.D., and mediated by Ms. Amber Sun, JD.

  

The China Practice Committee arranged for AIPLA members to participate in the Zhejiang IP Presentations in Wenzhou city and Hangzhou city on April 28 and 29 of 2011, respectively. Mr. David Hill (the current president of the AIPLA) presented at both locations under theReport for Zhejiang IP Presentations invitation of the Zhejiang IP Office. Other AIPLA members presenting talks were Ningling Wang (a partner of Finnegan Shanghai Office), Mr. Benjamin Bai (a partner of Allen & Overy), and Mr. Zhun Lu (the Asian Practice Director of Connolly Bove Lodge & Hutz).

​The Special Committee on IP Practice in China will be hosting a committee meeting  on Thursday, May 12from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm in the Napa room on the second floor.  

The agenda is as follows:
1.     Some introductory remarks
2.     Report on status of our committee website (we've made significant progress!)
3.     Planning for Annual Meeting in October (we will likely receive a delegation from the China IP Society)
4.     Planning for delegation to China in 2012
5.     Report on status of patent webinar for All China Patent Agents Association (scheduled for June 1 at 9:00 a.m. Beijing time)
6.     Report on participation in Zhejiang IP Bureau's IP Roadshow (took place in April)
7.     Report on PTO-AIPLA roundtable on Chinese design and utility model patents (took place in March)
8.     Other issues?

​Don't miss the joint CLE session brought together by the Biotechnology, the IP Practice in Latin America, the IP Practice in the Far East, and the IP Practice in China committees at the Spring Meeting, entitled, "Biotechnology Patent Strategies in Chanllenging Markets."  The session will be on Friday from 3:30 to 5:30 pm in the Ralston Room on the Lobby Level.  A panel of experts from India, China, Argentina, Brazil and Taiwan will detail obstacles facing protection of biotechnology inventions and provide insights toward crafting effective global strategies.
