10/2/2009

ARLINGTON, VA – David Kappos, the new Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the US Patent and Trademark Office, will speak on overcoming the challenges that face the USPTO at the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) Annual Meeting on Thursday, October 15th at 8:00 am at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, DC.

“AIPLA is looking forward to what Under Secretary Kappos has to say at this pivotal time in intellectual property law” said AIPLA President Teresa Stanek Rea.  The office continues to deal with a patent application backlog of more than 770,000, has recently proposed the first major change to the count system in years, and continues to face significant funding challenges. Director Kappos joins an all-star line-up of speakers and panels including European Patent Office President Alison Brimelow and Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit Chief Judge Paul Michel and Judge Randall Rader.

This year’s AIPLA Annual Meeting will run from Thursday, October 15 through Saturday, October 17.  For more information about the AIPLA Annual Meeting, click here.
