USPTO Deputy Director Michelle Lee Addresses AIPLA Mid-Winter Institute in Phoenix


January 30, 2014, Arlington, VA—USPTO Deputy Director Michelle K. Lee made her first public address as Deputy Director during the AIPLA Mid-Winter Institute today in Phoenix, AZ. In her remarks, she outlined her background as an engineer, IP attorney and Director of the USPTO Silicon Valley Satellite Office, and spoke about her own personal history of being born and raised in the Silicon Valley's unique environment of entrepreneurship and innovation.
Deputy Director Lee highlighted the USPTO's commitment to fostering a strong and balanced IP system. Lee said she is committed in her new role to advance the Office's ability to empower the innovation economy, and that "the USPTO has never been better poised to effect positive change as it further fuels our nation's innovation economy." 
"We were honored to have Deputy Director Lee select AIPLA for her first public address," said Q. Todd Dickinson, AIPLA Executive Director.  "With the current Administration's focus on patent issues, we are pleased that Deputy Director Lee's extensive experience in this arena will help shape the conversation."
AIPLA, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, was founded in 1897 to maintain a high standard of professional ethics, to aid in the improvement in laws relating to intellectual property and in their proper interpretation by the courts, and to provide legal education to the public and to its members on intellectual property issues. AIPLA is a national bar association constituted primarily of lawyers in private and corporate practice, in government service, and in the academic community.
