Michelle Lee to Keynote AIPLA's 2014 Mid-Winter Institute

Newly Appointed USPTO Deputy Director to Speak  During Plenary Session

In perhaps her first major public appearance since being appointed, Michelle Lee, Deputy Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Deputy Director of the US Patent and Trademark Office, will discuss her new role and the challenges facing the Office during the AIPLA Mid-Winter Institute, January 29 - February 1, 2014 in Phoenix, AZ.

As the Keynote Speaker during the Plenary Session on Thursday, Jan. 30, it is anticipated that Deputy Director Lee will address a range of issues, including her thoughts on this transition, her goals for the Office during her term, funding issues and the new budget, the Administration's current views on IP issues, from both a policy and an administrative standpoint, and the challenges, especially at this critical time, facing both the Office and the world of IP generally.

Don't miss this opportunity to be one of the first to hear from new leadership at the USPTO at this critical time. REGISTER TODAY!

Also, at Lunch on Thursday we will feature a panel of distinguished Federal district court judges who are participating in the Patent Pilot Program -- a 10-year project that was designed to enhance expertise in patent cases on the Federal bench. This panel of experienced jurists will provide an insider's look at how the program is working and give advice for litigators and patentees alike on practicing before them.

On Friday, a second distinguished panel will give yet another insider look at the current patent reform legislation pending before Congress.  Will it pass?  What will be included and what will be left out?  These folks know and will share it with you.

Also, during the Institute, leading in-house and outside counsel will discuss:
  • Critical strategic planning for developing and protecting a complete IP portfolio
  • Must-know legal issues for new and emerging technologies and global portfolios
  • Hands-on interactive workshops led by expert in-house and outside counsel will focus on practical issues important to clients, such as: IP litigation, IP portfolio development, and clearance and IP business deals.
This is a complete program like we have rarely had before at the Mid-Winter Institute. Do not miss it. REGISTER TODAY!
