Chairman Goodlatte Reintroduces The Innovation Act

February 5, 2015
Arlington, VA, -- Rep. Bob Goodlatte, Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, reintroduced the Innovation Act today as H.R. 9.  The American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) notes that the bill provides another opportunity to consider and discuss the important issues addressed in Chairman Goodlatte's legislation.
AIPLA Executive Director Lisa Jorgenson commented that "the attention to these issues reflects the interest and effort of the House of Representatives and the Senate to both improve the U.S. patent system and deal with concerns regarding certain abusive litigation behavior.  We look forward to continuing to work together with Congress toward a goal of ensuring that any legislation strikes the right balance between restraining abusive behavior while not impairing the legitimate rights of patent owners."
AIPLA, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, was founded in 1897 to maintain a high standard of professional ethics, to aid in the improvement in laws relating to intellectual property and in their proper interpretation by the courts, and to provide legal education to the public and to its members on intellectual property issues. AIPLA is a national bar association constituted primarily of lawyers in private and corporate practice, in government service, and in the academic community.
