Quarterly Journal Editorial Board Selection Information

APPLICATIONS DUE AUGUST 31, 2010

AIPLA is currently seeking members interested in serving on its Editorial Board for the AIPLA Quarterly Journal. The Editorial Board consists of 17 members and includes the Editor-in-Chief (who serves as Chair), two "ex officio" members (AIPLA's Director of Legal Affairs and a member of the Board of Directors), and 14 regular members, who serve three-year non-renewable terms. Each year, one-third of the Editorial Board members are selected for terms beginning in October, coinciding with the AIPLA Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C.

Primary duties of the Editorial Board include:

  1. soliciting manuscripts for submission to the Quarterly Journal
  2. reviewing manuscripts submitted to the Quarterly Journal
  3. selecting reviewed manuscripts for publication
  4. editing manuscripts for substantive content; and
  5. establishing Quarterly Journal policy.

The most time is devoted to reviewing manuscripts submitted by authors for publication in the Quarterly Journal. Two Editorial Board members review each manuscript, comment on the manuscript, edit the manuscript (if necessary), and indicate whether the manuscript should be selected for publication. Board members get approximately 1–2 weeks to complete this task for each manuscript. Over the year, a member can expect to receive approximately 10–15 manuscripts for review.

Participation on the Editorial Board is a rewarding and educational experience. It provides an opportunity to establish policy for the Quarterly Journal and to work with outstanding professionals with expertise in IP law to help shape the future of the Quarterly Journal. In addition, manuscripts received are often on cutting-edge topics of interest to the intellectual property community.

Members of AIPLA interested in serving on the AIPLA Quarterly Journal Editorial Board for a three-year term beginning in October 2010 should submit four (4) copies of the following materials on or before August 31, 2010:

  1. cover letter explaining your interest in and qualifications for participating on the Editorial Board, including experience with cutting-edge issues in IP law
  2. curriculum vitae
  3. questionnaire (click HERE to download the questionnaire)
