Helpful Hints for Job Seekers

IMPORTANT: You must be a current member of AIPLA to participate in the Career Fair.  You will need your number to complete the registration process. If you are a member and don't know your member number, please contact us at headquarters at 703-415-0780 and we'd be happy to provide that for you over the phone. Please see the scenarios below to determine how you can register for the Career Fair today!

YOU ARE A CURRENT MEMBER AND HAVE AN ACCOUNT IN THE CAREER CENTER ALREADY:

  • Log in to your career center account (available at http://careers.aipla.org/home/index.cfm?site_id=714)
  • Click on the "My Account" tab
  • Click the quick link "Edit My Settings"
  • Scroll down to the Member section and ensure that member "yes" is selected and insert your member number in the appropriate field.
  • When you're sure your account is updated, you can then goto the Career Fair registration button and register.
  • Once you've registered, you may want to update your resume information.  You can do so by clicking on the "My Account" tab.

YOU ARE A CURRENT MEMBER BUT DON'T YET HAVE A CAREER CENTER ACCOUNT:

YOU ARE NOT A CURRENT MEMBER OF AIPLA AND DO NOT HAVE A JOBSEEKER ACCOUNT IN THE CAREER CENTER

  • Once you join, a member number will be assigned to you.  If you don't see your member number in your online profile, contact us at headquarters and we can give it to you over the phone.
  • Click on the "Job Seekers" Career Fair Button on the Career Center Home Page (available at http://careers.aipla.org/home/index.cfm?site_id=714)
  • After reading the information, click on the "Register" button
  • You will be prompted to create a new account in the Career Center
  • Be sure to select yes that you are a member and enter your valid member ID
  • Once you're registered, you'll want to post your resume by going the "My Account"

Once you register for the Career Fair, go to “My Account” and a new box will appear titled “My Career Fairs.”

To review the information about the fair, click on the 2009 Career Fair link.  If you have not posted your resume or updated your profile, we recommend you do so as employers will be searching resumes as well as reviewing actual applications.  The more complete information you post, the better off you’ll be.  To update your resume, click on the “Update My Resume” link under Quick Links at the top of the page.  You can also access your resume by clicking on the Resumes/Letters tab.

There are three more boxes on the “My Account” page.  One titled “My Messages” contains messages you may receive from potential employers.

The box titled  “My Job Applications” contains information on any positions for which you’ve submitted an application.

The last box, at the bottom of the page is titled “My Saved Jobs.”  If, when you’re reviewing the job openings, there is a job that you’re interested in considering further, but you aren’t ready to apply for, if you click the “save job” link, any that you click will appear here.

Once you check “My Account” and verify that the “My Career Fair” appears on your screen, and you’ve updated your resume and cover letters, you’re now ready to search for jobs.

To review the available positions, click on the Job Search tab at the top of the page.  Career Fair positions will be highlighted with the following icon:  Image

Employers will be posting available positions as they register for the Career Fair.  All applications must be submitted by Monday, October 5, 2009.

We strongly recommend that, while you are registered for the Career Fair you use the Job Alert feature.

To set up a Job Alert, click on the Job Alert tab.  Follow the instructions and you can create a job alert that will notify you daily or weekly if any new positions meeting the criteria you establish are posted.

Employers will reach out to applicants directly to schedule onsite interviews.  You may also come and attend the Career Fair if you do not have an interview scheduled to learn about the different Firms and Companies participating and deposit your resume for future consideration.

If you have any questions as you move through the process you can contact customer support at 888.575.WORK(9675) (inside US) or 860.440.0635 (outside US) or you can contact AIPLA headquarters at 703-415-0780.
