Course Description:
Marketing today is dramatically different. Advertisers used to rely primarily on major media, such as television commercials and print advertising, where advertisers controlled the timing and content of the messages delivered to consumers. Consumers are now part of the conversation, and advertising has become a dialogue between advertisers and consumers and among consumers as well. This is a result not only of changes in technology, but in the shifting of advertising dollars from traditional media to online media. Advertisers today are increasing relying on consumers, and user generated content, to create advertising messages and to spread the word. Advertising campaigns conducted through social media and word of mouth marketing have not only changed the way the advertisers must approach advertising campaigns, but have raised a host of new legal issues that advertisers must confront. Although the traditional rules still apply, applying advertising law and intellectual property principles to emerging media raises many difficult questions that marketers are struggling with and that courts are confronting. This webinar will address the key legal issues, and describe best practices, that marketers must address when using user generated content and viral marketing to reach consumers.
