When the competition takes place, the award is presented at the Annual Meeting in Washington, DC. The AIPLA Fellows Award of $2,000 is awarded to the author of best article relating to a specified topic, announced in the Fall prior to the June competition deadline. Articles must be original and written between July 1 and June 30 of the competition year and must not have been published prior to submission.
To be eligible for consideration, the article must have been written solely by a current AIPLA Student member in full time attendance at a law school (day or evening) for at least one semester or equivalent during the term of the completion. The article must be submitted to the American Intellectual Property Law Association on or before June 30 of the competition year. Papers should be approximately the equivalent of 10 law review pages including footnotes (30-40 pages typed copy). Submission of 20 copies is required. Submissions must include the submitter’s name, current address, current telephone number, and employment information, if applicable. In addition, the submission must include a CD that has a file with the paper saved in either Word or Word Perfect.
Judges will consider the merit of the article as a contribution to the knowledge respecting intellectual property and the extent to which it relates to the assigned topic and displays original and creative thought or information not previously written or published by the author prior to July 1.
Reasonable expenses will be reimbursed to the author of the winning paper to travel to Washington, DC to receive the AIPLA Fellows Award in October during the Annual Meeting. The winning paper will also be distributed as part of the materials for the AIPLA Annual Meeting. The winner will be required to sign a publication release to allow AIPLA to publish the paper.
